All Star Show 2012


All-Star Skill Competition-


On January 28,2012 the 59th All-Star Skills Competition took place at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontatrio, Canada. All-Star Skills Competition is an event that takes place one day before the All-Star game. This event showcases the top skills of the all-star participants. Events include accuracy shooting, hardest shot, fastest skater, relay, breakaway challenge and elimination shootout. The two teams select players to participate in specific events and the player that wins the challenge gets his team a point and at the end of the whole event the team with the most points wins the All-Star Skills Competition.

This competition determines who the fastest skater in the NHL is. This year

Breakaway challenge-

This competition is vote based, the player that get the most votes from fans throgh text messeges
is declared the winner. Fans vote for the player they thought had the most impressive breakaway.

Accuracy shooting-

In this competition players must hit 4 targets that are placed inside the net in the least amount of time.
In the 2012 accuracy shooting competition; Benn blow the competition away, by hitting all the target in a little over 10 seconds.

Hardest shot-

This is a competition that measures how hard a player can shoot the hockey puck.
This competition has been dominated by Chara for the fast 4 years and no surprise he won agin making it
his 5th straight win in this event. Setting a all time high of 108.mph.

Relay Challenge-

In this competition, each player on the team has to complete one skill before the next player can start the next skill. Who ever finishes all of the skills in the relay in the shortest amount of time wins the challenge. Team Alfredsson won the 2012 relay challenge.



Elimination shootout-

In this competition, players try to score breakaway goals on the teams opposing goalie. Players that score a goal on the goalie get their team a point. Players that do not score a goal get eliminated for the challenge. Team Alfredsson won this challenge by scoring 10 goals and Chara's team only scored 3 goals.




Final overall score: 21–12 Team Alfredsson

NHL All-Star Game-


The fantasy draft format that was first seen in the 2011 All-Star Game and it was used again in this years 2012 All-Star game. The players participating voted for team captains, selecting Daniel Alfredsson of the Ottawa Senators and Zdeno Chara of Boston Bruins. This was the city of Ottawa's first time hosting an NHL All-Star Event. Ottawa has hosted other two drafts, a Stanley Cup Final, and the World Junior Championships. It was a special time for Ottawa to host this event, because it also marked the 20th anniversary of the Ottawa Senators since they joined the NHL. It was the second All-Star Game that Canada has hosted in the past three years,as the Montreal hosted it in 2009. The final score for the NHL All-Star Game was 12-9 for team Chara.
